Creating a Culture of Discipleship

Discipleship is a word that is becoming increasingly popular in today’s church vocabulary. It seems there has been an awakening for churches to go back to the roots of truly discipling their people. Churches that boast thousands of attendees are looking at their people asking the question, “Are we really producing mature and equipped followers of Christ?” In one way or another, most churches are doing discipleship…or a form thereof…it is seen in preaching, teaching, small groups and various ministries. The question that must be asked however is, “Are these ministries of the church really producing mature and equipped followers of Christ who can then go and disciple others also?” As we observed our churches throughout Poland the answer was no. While all of those ministries are great…and many of them even biblical…the landscape of Poland was showing that they were not producing mature and equipped followers who could effectively disciple others.

We have been working to establish a culture of discipleship within the churches throughout Poland. This process is called Life on Life Missional Discipleship and it is simply the investment of one life into the lives of a few with the purpose of producing mature and equipped followers of Christ who will, in turn, be able to reproduce their lives in the lives of others.

We do this in Poland by:

1. Leading a personal discipleship group and investing our lives in the lives of those within our group

2. Working over 40 churches throughout Poland to help them establish a culture of discipleship.

3. Leading Clinics and Conferences that help church leaders throughout Poland become trained in Life on Life Missional Discipleship

4. Coaching pastors to effectively lead a discipleship movement within their church

5. Coaching Discipleship Leaders to effectively lead their LOLMD groups

For us, discipleship is the foundation of church ministry. If a church isn’t doing discipleship well…what is the point in reproducing? On the other hand, if discipleship is done effectively, mature and equipped leaders and missional church plants will be a natural result.
